Vedika Software Private Limited, the Kolkata based developers of FACT real-time accounting software and PERKS payroll software, has invested Singapore $140,000 to conduct live projects with students of various management and technical institutes in Singapore and India to further industry-academia partnership.

Vedika Software through its 100 per cent subsidiary company FACT Software International Pte Limited, Singapore, has become the first Indian company to recruit 19 interns from the Singapore Management University (SMU) to strategise and drive six live projects in Singapore.

In India, Vedika has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the country's oldest management institute, Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM) to introduce FACT as a part of the IISWBM curriculum of Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) and Public Systems Management (PSM) apart from the optional course in the regular MBA programme, informed Arvind Agarwalla, founder and CEO, Vedika Software Private Limited and FACT Software International Pte Limited.

The induction into training and application of this holistic packaged software will increase the marketability of students by 10 to 15 per cent, said Agarwalla.

Besides the FACT tie-up, Vedika is also looking at providing placement to top five students and internship through project placements for the IISWBM students.

The introduction of FACT as part of the curriculum will be a value addition to the course through an induction into state of the art accounting procedures, enhancing their value in the job market as FACT has a large user base in India and major parts of the Asia Pacific region, noted Ashoke K Dutta, director of IISWBM.

The faculty members are currently undergoing training in FACT usage, Dutta remarked.

Agarwalla also said that FACT has a similar arrangement with SMU and also a work study programme, wherein the students work at FACT for two days a week.

Vedika has plans to make similar strategic alliances with University of Hyderabad, School of Business.

Furthering these alliances, FACT Singapore has such industry-academia partnership arrangements with the polytechnics of Singapore, Institute of Technical Education, Stansfield College Singapore, etc.

"We look forward to such internships as fresh, young minds can enrich our businesses with new ideas and leveraging each other's strengths, we will add to the realities of a live business environment while the students are still at school," Agarwalla added.

The FACT usage has not yet been made compulsory but is strongly recommended as part of the curriculum but the students will surely opt for it knowing that it will increase their market value to a great extent, Dutta reiterated.
