Tata
Indicom India - Singapore Cable Systems collaboration for
laying the terabit capacity undersea cable that is expected
to transform the international bandwidth scenario in the
country, achieved yet another significant milestone as Tyco.
Telecommunications
cable ship, the CS Tyco Durable, departed Chennai to
commence the laying of the 3175 km undersea cable in the
Indian seabed on May 15, 2004. Tata Indicom India -
Singapore Cable System, planning to cater to the exponential
increase in the International bandwidth demand in the
country, is in the line with VSNL's objective of providing
robust end-to-end connectivity to its enterprise and
broadband customers.
Tyco
Telecommunication, one of the world's leading providers of
undersea fiber optic systems, is the turnkey supply
contractor for VSNL's Tata Indicom India - Singapore Cable
Systems.
The new
3175 km Tata Indicom Submarine Cable Systems will run
between Chennai and Singapore. The state-of-the-art cable
system will have and initial capacity of 320 Gbps with the
ability to scale up its design capacity of 5.12 Tbps.
With an
estimated operating lifespan of 25 years, the new cable will
connect Chennai to Singapore, from where onward extension of
the US and other significant geographies is readily
available at competitive prices.
