Indian
IT cos invited to tap Singapore in a big way
Hindu Business Line, 18 January 2004
The
Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, on
Saturday visited Satyam Technology Centre near here and
invited technology companies to look at Singapore in Their
plans.
Mr
Lee was met by the Satyam Chairman, Mr B Ramalinga Raju, and
the State Minister for Commercial Taxes, Mr Vijaya Rama Rao,
at the 120-acre technology center.
Mr
Raju said that “since we set up the Asia-Pacific
head-quarters in Singapore in January 2001, Satyam has
experienced exponential growth in the region, driven largely
out of the Singapore office. Throughout this growth, we have
benefited from the pro-active support of the Singapore
Government agencies and its leaders. Further, bilateral IT
services will become an important pillar for Closer Economic
Cooperation Agreement (CECA) trade pact being negotiated
between India and Singapore.”
The
company has established its Business Continuity Centre in
Singapore in February 2003, designed to ensure that its
clients receive seamless and uninterrupted support in case
of a country outage due to a disaster. Satyam’s Singapore
office acts as a hub for the region. It has a stuff strength
of over 650 working in the Asia-Pacific countries with over
220 in Singapore.
