SINGAPORE, April 10
(Xinhua) -- A Celebrating India Week organized by the Indian High Commission in
Singapore kicked off Monday night in the city state, according to Channel NewsAsia
report. Apart from business summit and
seminars on doing business with India, the event will also include a tourism fair,
exhibitions on life styles and contemporary Indian paintings, dance and play performances,
film screenings, as well as Indian cuisine festivals. "The
purpose of this cultural feast is to provide exposure to wide range of aspects
of contemporary India in a focused manner, highlight the depth and diversity of
India-Singapore relations in a variety of areas and showcase a representative
selection of the best of Indian talent," the organizer said on its website.Singapore's
Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong attended the launching ceremony as the guest of
honor. Singapore and India signed a
bilateral Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) in late June last
year. Trade volume between the two
countries doubled in the past two years to reach 16.6 billion Singapore dollars
(about 10.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2005. Singapore became India's third largest
investor and seventh largest cumulative investor last year. Enditem
