First phase of ITPC to be ready by July

Chennai: First phase of the International Tech Park, a 15-acre information technology park being set up here by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) and Singapore-based Ascendas, will be completed in July 2005, officials said today.

The IT Park, Chennai (ITPC), which will have a total space of 1.5 million sq.ft, is being constructed in three-phases. The first phase would have 525,000 sq.ft area for occupancy.

Speaking at the `topping-out ceremony (putting the last concrete for the building structure), Lew Syn Pau, chairman, Ascendas Pte Ltd, said the first phase of ITPC will comprise of an 11-storey business space for IT and IT-enabled services companies, call centres, data centre and R&D operations.

The topping-out ceremony was attended by Cedric Foo, Singapores Minister of State for Defence and National Development and Nainar Nagenthran, Minister for Industries, Tamil Nadu.

Ascendas (India) Pvt Ltd, which has constructed IT Parks in Bangalore (International Tech Park), Haryana (Gurgaon Tech Park) and Hyderabad (Cyber Pearl and Vanenburg IT Park), will also being establishing similar parks at Pune and Kolkata, Pau said.

In Chennai itself, Ascendas is setting up another IT facility at the Mahindra City, a 1400-acre special economic zone on the city outskirts. The Singapore company would be setting up a 20,000-25,000 sq.ft area in Mahindra City, he said. "We are extremely bulling on Chennai," Pau said.
