SATS bags contract to handle cargo operations at Bangalore new airport

The city-state is aggressively marketing its institutions in India through educational fairs

In just the last couple of years, the number of Singaporean educational institutions marketing their courses in IndiSINGAPORE: Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) has clinched a deal to run cargo operations at a new airport in Bangalore, India.

SATS is teaming up with Air India for the project in India's IT hub.

The consortium is one of two awarded a 20-year contract each to provide cargo handling services at the upcoming Bangalore International Airport, which is expected to start operations in two years.

SATS did not disclose any financial details in its filing to the Singapore Exchange.

The collaboration allows SATS, a unit of Singapore Airlines, to extend its footprint in the South Asia market and marks its first cargo handling business in India.

Cargo at Bangalore is expected to triple in the next 10 to 15 years from the current annual throughput of 120,000 tonnes.

The Singapore company's network of ground handling and airline catering operations spans more than 20 airports in the Asia Pacific region.
