Chennai, April. 15 (PTI): Singapore is keen for a public-private partnership with India in infrastructure development, especially in real-estate and construction sectors, according to a member of a high-level business delegation visiting the city.

Urban infrastructure development, real-estate development and construction industry in India hold good potential for joint collaboration between Indian and Singapore companies, Chionh Chye Khye, CEO of Building and Construction Authority, Singapore, said at a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here today.

These can be developed on a public-private partnership, said Khye, a member of the 25-member high-level business delegation from Singapore, which began a two-day visit to the city yesterday.

He said in Chennai there was tremendous scope for providing infrastructure facilities for IT and BPO (business process outsourcing) companies.

Highlighting the efforts by CII to promote investments in infrastructure, J P Nayak, Chairman, infrastructure sub-committee of CII Southern Region, said the CII was organising three conferences for the purpose.

A two-day conference on infrastructure would be held in Hyderabad on July 28 and 29, this year. An exhibtion on construction industry (Excon-2005) would be held by the end of November in Bangalore, he said. The third event on real-estate would be held in Chennai, on September 2 and 3, 2005, Nayak said.

Ramesh Nair, Associate Director of Jones Lang Le Salle, a consultancy firm, said Chennai, along with Pune and Hyderabad, was one of the fast growing secondary hub for real-estate. Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore are the primary hubs.

Last year alone, 14 million sq.ft of office space was occupied by companies in Chennai, he said. About 80 per cent of this was occupied by IT and ITeS companies.

He said last year also saw a 20 per cent growth in housing and construction sectors in Chennai.

M Velmurugan, Director, Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance & Export, explained the initiatives taken by the State Government in promoting infrastructure sectors in the State.
