MUMBAI:
Temasek, the Singapore-based foreign institutional investor (FII), among the early
birds to have spotted India as an investment destination, has different strategies
for India and China — the two fast-growing economies in the world. The
bulge bracket FII from Singapore viewed India as an attractive investment destination
much before other foreign investment firms like Blackstone and Carlyle set foot
into the country. Temasek, getting
an early whiff of the unfolding India story, would perhaps have been facilitated
by the geographical proximity and political connections of the two countries. Its
criteria for investing in India and China are very different. Even the scale of
investments varies for the two countries.A
closely guarded investment firm, Temasek reveals very little to the outside world.
